Test the real lesson setup, not another room
A video call can work well beside the router and fail in a bedroom at the other end of the home. Test the same device, room, headphones and connection the learner will use. Open the meeting app early enough to handle an update or forgotten password without taking time from the assessment.
Place the camera and material so learning remains practical
The tutor should be able to hear clearly and, when needed, see the learner's attention and material. Keep the camera stable rather than holding a phone throughout the lesson. Good lighting from the front is more useful than a decorative background.
Use the learner's existing Qaida or Mushaf during assessment. The tutor can then see what is familiar and whether changing material is necessary. Do not purchase several books before the course is confirmed.
Prepare one accurate description of the learner
Useful information includes age, current reading ability, previous study, recent break, main goal, preferred language, city, time zone and tutor preference. “Beginner” can mean no letter recognition, some Qaida experience or slow Mushaf reading, so provide one example of what the learner can do.
Parent role during a child's lesson
A parent does not need to answer every question. The tutor must hear the child's own reading to assess accurately. The parent can solve a technical problem, help the child find the page and remain reasonably available. After class, ask for one clear practice target rather than a general statement such as “practise more.”
Privacy and communication boundaries
- Enrollment and scheduling should use a parent-managed or adult learner contact.
- Children should not be asked for payment details, private documents or unrelated personal information.
- Recording or promotional use should require clear permission from the responsible adult and relevant participants.
- Report uncomfortable or confusing communication through the academy's published email or WhatsApp contact.
Read the complete QuranCrest child-safety standards before regular lessons begin.
Common first-lesson technical problems
| Problem | Quick check | Better preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Tutor cannot hear clearly | Confirm the correct microphone and remove Bluetooth devices not in use. | Test one normal recitation before the lesson. |
| Audio echoes | Lower speaker volume or use comfortable headphones. | Keep only one call device active in the room. |
| Page is difficult to follow | Improve front lighting and camera stability. | Keep a digital copy only if the tutor approves it. |
| Child leaves repeatedly | Reduce distractions and check whether the session is too long. | Choose a realistic time and agree on a short break rule. |
What should happen after the assessment
The family should understand the recommended course, starting skill, lesson duration, weekly frequency, tutor match, local lesson time, price and main terms before paying. Ask for clarification if the recommendation is only a course name without explaining why it fits.
Frequently asked questions
Does the first assessment require a card?
No. QuranCrest states that the learning assessment does not require a card.
Should a child wear headphones?
Headphones can improve clarity, but they should be comfortable and should not prevent reasonable parent awareness. Test the volume first.
Can a parent attend the assessment?
Yes. A responsible adult should manage enrollment for younger learners and may remain present while the tutor listens to the child.
What if the current level is unknown?
Bring the material previously used and let the learner read naturally. The purpose of the assessment is to identify the starting point.
Next useful step
Check the likely starting level before the meeting, or build a practice routine after the tutor gives the first assignment.
